When most people talk about buying Hoodia they are actually referring to Hoodia gordonii — the only one of the 13 Hoodia species effective for weight loss. Hoodia gordonii grows naturally in South Africa where the native San people have eaten it for thousands of years.
Wild-crafted Hoodia is by far the most effective type of Hoodia gordonii for weight loss, but other types of Hoodia are often found in cheap and likely ineffective Hoodia products.
- Cultivated Hoodia gordonii is hand-planted Hoodia that has only been in the ground for 5-7 years. This Hoodia may cause mild appetite suppressing effects, but is far less effective than wild-crafted Hoodia gordonii.
- Adulterated Hoodia: This Hoodia is made by mixing either wild-crafted or cultivated Hoodia with additives to dilute the Hoodia and save the manufacturer money.
- Fake Hoodia: This “Hoodia” contains no real Hoodia at all. Not only is this Hoodia fake and ineffective, it is likely chemical-ridden and dangerous.
